Opposition MP, Ahmed Shiyam has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Media and Communication Director of the Parliament, Hassan Ziyau confirmed to AVAS that the Naifaru MP tested positive for the virus. However, he did not provide any information on when the MP tested positive for the virus.
While the Parliament held a sitting on Monday, MP Shiyam was not present at the sitting. It is not known whether anyone at the Parliament is a direct contact of Shiyam. Ziyau said the contact tracing process is currently ongoing.
Most members of the parliament has received the first dose of the COVID019 vaccine. However, it is not known whether Shiyam received the vaccine.
Shiyam is the second MP to test positive for COVId-19. Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Henveriu Central MP and PG leader, Ali Azim earlier tested positive for the virus.
