MTCC commences physical work on Muli Airport project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced physical work on the project to develop an airport in M. Muli.

A special ceremony was held at M. Muli to kick off the project. The ceremony was attended by MTCC’s CEO Adam Azim and Dhiggaru MP Ikram Hassan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Azim said the project will be carried out without interruptions until it reaches completion within the first three months of 2022.

President of Muli Council, Ahmed Shathir said the atoll faces several challenges due to difficulties in travel, including transporting patients during emergency situations, carrying out economic activities and finding job opportunities. However, the establishment of the airport would resolve all such issues, said Shathir.

MTCC signed the project agreement with Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to design and build an airport at M. Muli on February 28 . The value of the project is MVR 221.73 million and the project is to be completed within 365 days. 14 hectares of land will be dredged and a 1,200 meter long runway, taxiway, apron and terminal will be established at the airport under the project.
