Committee approves to appoint Shifla to MBC

The Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has approved to appoint TV presenter, Shifla Ibrahim as a member of Maldives Broadcasting Commission. This is the third time the committee has given its approval for Shifla to be appointed to the commission.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated Shifla's name for MBC appointment twice in the past. However, the Parliament rejected that nomination despite her being the president's first choice. During the third round of nominations, President Solih nominated Fathmath Saushan as his first choice while Shifla was nominated as his second choice.

The relevant parliament committee interviewed all nominees on Wednesday, and concluded to approve Shifla.

Speaking at the committee, Shifla said she applied for the post a third time despite failing in her first two attempts as she is not someone who gives up without a fight. While she has spent over 20 years working in the media and communications field, she believes she has the experience required to fill such a post, said Shifla.

The Broadcasting Commission is comprised of seven members. A slot is available on the commission as the term of one of its members, Aiminath Shaarath Izzath came to an end. The term of commission members is five years.
