The Parliament has approved to establish a youth entertainment center in capital Male'.
A resolution to establish an entertainment center where youth can partake in fun and recreational activities was submitted by main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Chairperson and Henveiru West MP Hassan Latheef. He proposed to include a recording center and music school at the center, and to facilitate arrangements to hold music shows at the center.
The resolution was assessed by the Committee on Social Affairs and approved to establish the center with Ministry of Heritage and Culture as its focal point. The resolution was passed by the parliament floor on Thursday with the votes of 46 MPs.
During the initial debate on the resolution, opposition members voiced criticism and concern on the resolution. Religious scholars also criticized the proposal.
