The parliament has approved to appoint Shifla Ibrahim to the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC).
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated Shifla's name for MBC appointment twice in the past. However, the Parliament rejected that nomination despite her being the president's first choice both times.
During the third round of nominations, President Solih nominated Fathmath Saushan as his first choice while Shifla was nominated as his second choice. However, only Shifla's name received approval during the committee stage. After receiving the Parliament's Independent Institution Committee's approval, her name was forwarded to the Parliament floor, and 71 members voted in her favor of her appointment during Thursday's parliament sitting.
Shifla holds both a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree is Journalism, and has over two decades of experience working in the field. She currently works part time as a new anchor for Sangu TV.
The Broadcasting Commission is comprised of seven members. A slot was available on the commission as the term of one of its members, Aiminath Sahaarath Izzath came to an end. The term of commission members is five years.
