1,960 new cases, three deaths in 24 hours

The Maldives on Saturday reported 1,960 positive cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 1,518 cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area while 442 cases were reported from the atolls, including resorts. This increases the country's tally to 54,365 out of which 22,421 cases are active.

HPA said 294 people are currently hospitalized and receiving treatment. Out of these, 16 are in the Intensive Care Unit, and eight are on ventilator support. Three deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours, increasing the archipelagos' toll to 123. 50 deaths have been recorded thus far this month compared to 51 deaths recorded between March and December 2020.
