COVID-19: 1559 confirmed cases, six deaths over 24 hours

The Maldives on Sunday reported 1,559 positive cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 1,135 cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area while 421 cases were reported from the atolls, including resorts. This increases the country's tally to 55,924 out of which 24,464 cases are active.

HPA said 290 people are currently hospitalized and receiving treatment. Out of these, 16 are in the Intensive Care Unit, and eight are on ventilator support. Six deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours, increasing the archipelagos' toll to 129. 56 deaths have been recorded thus far this month compared to 51 deaths recorded between March and December 2020.
