Daily stats: 1,299 cases, three deaths

The Maldives on Wednesday reported 1,299 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 890 cases were recorded from the Greater Male' Region while 1382 cases were reported from the atolls, including resorts. This increases the country's tally to 59,644, out of which 24,867 cases are active. 285 people are currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.

Three deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours increasing the country's toll to 147. The month of May has been particularly devastating, with more COVID-19 deaths recorded in May 2021 than the combined number of all COVID-19 deaths in 2020. 74 deaths have been recorded thus far this month compared to 51 deaths recorded between March and December 2020.
