A pregnant woman who tested positive for COVID-19 is in serious condition and receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

The family of the patient said she works on the frontline as a nurse, and has been admitted at the ICU in Dharumavantha Hospital for the past five days. She tested positive for the virus a week ago and was transferred to the hospital after her condition deteriorated three days after she tested positive. Her condition is now improving, her family said.

The number of pregnant women testing positive for COVID-19 has been increasing over the past few weeks. Doctors say the infection affects unborn babies. The number of premature births is at 13 percent, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said.
