The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said over 380 children in the 0-1 age bracket tested positive for COVID-19 last month.
The Maldives' tally is currently at 64,396 and 170 deaths have been recorded to date. The archipelago recorded a devastating month of COVID-19 infections and deaths in May, during which daily number of infections remained above 1,000 on most days. 88 deaths were recorded over the past 31 days.
According to HPA, 381 children below the age of 1 tested positive for COVID-19 in May 2021. The authority urged parents to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of children.
The Maldives recorded its youngest COVID-19 death early Wednesday after a 10-year old brought to state run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital's ER passed away. A 7-year old with COVID-19 remains in critical condition on ventilator support.
