Entry denied to 248 tourists with false hotel bookings

Entry into the Maldives was denied to a large number of tourists who attempted to enter the country on Thursday with falsified hotel bookings.

Controller of Immigration, Mohamed 'Hanafy' Ahmed said 248 arrivals attempted to enter the country with falsified hotel bookings. They were stopped at the airport and have been sent back, said the controller.

The Maldives recorded a large number of arrivals on Thursday, which also marked one year since the country reopened its borders to tourists. Entry to South Asian tourists was also resumed yesterday after suspending entry to South Asian travelers following a surge in COVID-19 infections in the South Asian region.
