Additional guest house suspended for violating COVID-19 protocols

An additional guest house in the Greater Male' Region has been suspended for violating the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s guidelines and accomodating tourists arriving from South Asia.

The Maldives suspended issuing tourist visas to South Asian travelers on May 13 after the COVID-19 situation in the region worsened significantly. After the situation improved, the country resumed issuing visas to South Asian travelers from July 15. However, they can only stay at resorts and cannot stay at local guest houses and tourist hotels.

While the Tourism Ministry on July 17 suspended the operating licenses of three guest houses and cautioned another three guest houses for failure to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols, the Ministry said an additional guest house in the Greater Male' Region was suspended on July 18. However, the ministry has not disclosed the names of any of the guest houses.
