A tourist in whose luggage bullets were found earlier this week has been permanently deported.
Bullets were found in the luggage of a 60-year old Namibian national on July 10 while he was at Velana International Airport (VIA) to depart from the Maldives. He was initially remanded into custody for four days, after which he was handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation.
Maldives Immigration's Spokesperson told AVAS that the tourist was deported on Tuesday. He has been deported without the possibility of reentry any time in the future as his actions posed threats to national security.
No details have been provided on the number of bullets found or on how they were imported to the Maldives. Firearms, explosives, weapons, and ammunition are restricted items in the Maldives.
