Thimarafushi housing units to reach completion by November

The Planning Ministry has said the 100 housing units being constructed in T. Thimarafushi are expected to reach completion in November.

Senior Contracting Officer at Planning Ministry, Mohamed Zareer disclosed the information when President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih toured some development projects ongoing in Th. atoll during his current visit to the atoll.

Zareer said 32 houses being built under the Thimarafushi Housing Project are nearly complete, with masonry and roofing work already completed. The masonry work of the remaining housing units is ongoing, and is expected to reach completion by November, he added. Although some setbacks were faced due to COVID-19, the project is now back on track, he said.

20 hectares of land are available on Thimarafushi island which has a population of 2,500 people. The construction of 100 housing units on the island was contracted to SJ Construction Private Limited in January 2020 at a cost of over USD 4.63 million. Each housing unit will consist of 3 rooms, 3 toilets, a sitting room, and a laundry area.
