Man rescued from sinking safari passes away

A passenger rescued from a sinking safari vessel has passed away.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said it received reports of a safari sinking 4 nautical miles off Thilafushi sland on Sunday morning at 8:39 am. 17 people were aboard the vessel, Handy Cruise, at the time of the incident. The Coast Guard rescued all passengers on the vessel and transported them to the capital, Male' City. Seven of them were taken to state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment after their health detoriorated.

According to IGMH, the deceased is a 41-year-old male foreigner. The remaining patients are still receiving treatment, the official said.

The Maldives is currently experiencing adverse weather conditions, and several weather-related incidents have occurred over the past 24 hours. Authorities have warned seafarers to practice caution when traveling.
