Home Minister Imran Abdulla has said the government is aware of politicians who benefit from drug trade.
Speaking at an event held in Dhoonidhoo by Maldives Police Service to destroy 315 kg of seized drugs, the minister said several business networks profit from drug trade. He noted that politicians are also involved in the networks and that authorities are aware of their identities.
The minister did not divulge further information when asked to reveal their identities. However, he said that the public must be wary of these individuals and said much harm is caused to the public and the state due to the actions of these individuals. He assured that even if a member of his own party is involved in drug trade, he would not hesitate to take action against such a person.
