COVID-19: Over 2,300 positive cases recorded in 24 hours

The Maldives on Saturday registered a record number of COVID-19 cases.

Over the past 24 hours, the Maldives saw 2,349 new cases, increasing the island nation's tally to 114,977. While 7,574 samples tested across the country, 1,325 samples came positive from the Greater Male' Region. An additional 681 cases were identified from the atolls, and 54 cases in resorts.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said 3,635 samples were tested from Male' City, giving a positivity rate of 36 percent.

Currently, 13,035 cases are active, out of which 48 are admitted in hospitals. HPA said four patients are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The Maldives' COVID-19 death toll is 269.
