Parents of Ha. Filladhoo School students locked up the school on Sunday to express their frustrations due to the lack of a school principal.
The President of the Filladhoo Council, Fathuhulla Hassan, said the parents demand that a principal be appointed to the school. They arrived at the school before Sunday's school session began and put a lock on the school gate while custodial staff were inside. They also prevented teachers and students from entering the school.
'I do acknowledge that everyone has the right to express their opinion and protest. However, locking up a school and preventing students from studying is not a right they are entitled to. We have now opened the gate with police assistance, and the school session has resumed,' Fathuhulla said.
As per the latest announcement by the Education Ministry, Filladhoo School is among the schools for which the ministry is seeking principals.
