Emboodhoo Finolhu picnic island to be ready in last quarter

The picnic island being developed for Male' residents in K. Enboodhoo Finolhu will be opened during the last quarter of the year.

The developer of the Crossroads in Emboodhoo Finolhu, S Hotels and Resorts, released a statement on Friday that said the picnic island would be opened during the last three months of the year. The company further said the picnic island development agreement was signed last week between them and the Planning Ministry.

The government announced the Emboodhoo Finolhu picnic island project in September 2019. Seven companies agreed to complete the main works in developing the island under their CSR initiatives.

It is unknown whether the new picnic island will be accessible with or without a fee. The picnic island previously designated as a picnic island, Kuda Bandos, required an MVR 10 fee per head at that time.

Due to delays in developing the picnic iland on Emboodhoo FInolhu, the government reclaimed part of K. Kudagiri lagoon and began developing a picnic island. The project was handed over to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)in September 2021 for MVR 41.4 million. As per MTCC, the project will reach completion in March.

Developing a picnic island for Male' City residents is a presidential pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
