An Imam in Th. Miyamigili was attacked using a sharp object on Sunday.
Maldives Police Service said they received reports of the incident on Sunday morning. While the victim is receiving treatment for his injuries at the island health center, the attacker - a local male - was taken into custody earlier today.
The police are investigating the case further and did not disclose additional details.
Some residents of Dhiyamigili identified the victim as a local male Ahmed Rasheed.
