Maldives Customs Service has seized a large amount of drugs being smuggled into the Maldives.
A parcel was searched by Customs during inspection of packages that arrived in the Maldives via courier on March 9. Contents suspected to be drugs were found in the package, and preliminary testing confirmed it was positive for a street drug known as MDMA, Customs said.
The package contained 1.115 kg of drugs. Its street value is approximately MVR 3 million. Customs said the package had been handed over to Maldives Police Service.
