Overwater platform at JOALI Maldives collapses due to bad weather

The platform connecting JOALI Maldives' water villas and the resort island has collapsed due to bad weather.

It is reported that the long platform linking the over-water villas and the island collapsed in a rainstorm and strong gusts on Monday night. Movement between the huts and the island has been suspended due to the incident.

Photos circulating on social media show parts of the collapsed platform completely submerged in the water. Water can be seen flowing over the parts. Although tourists were inside the villas at the time of the incident, no persons were hurt.

JOALI Maldives opened in 2018 in R. Muravandhoo and is a 45-minute seaplane ride from Male' City. The resort has 73 villas.
