Southernmost Addu City's Hithadhoo island shore protection project has been launched.
The project was officially inaugurated by the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Mohamed Aslam, at a ceremony held at Addu City's Zeefannu Park on Wednesday. The ceremony was attended by Hithadhoo North MP Mohamed Aslam, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)'s CEO Adam Azim, and Addu City Council members.
The project includes the protection of 570 meters of beach and the construction of a beach area on the west side of the island. A 100-meter breakwater will be constructed outside the beach area, the Planning Ministry said.
The Planning Ministry awarded the shore protection contract to MTCC for MVR 11.6 million. The project is expected to be completed by December 12 this year, the Planning Ministry said.
