The Planning Ministry has said the evaluation of applications submitted for the government's 'Gedhoruveriyaa' and 'Binveriyaa' schemes would begin this week.
In June this year, the government opened the opportunity for Male' residents to apply for 3,000 out of 5,000 plots and 4,000 flats to be issued from the Greater Male' Area. The deadline for application was set as September 26. However, the government extended the deadline until October 15 following a change in eligibility requirements.
While 15,164 applications were received for the 5,000 plots of land, 14,489 applications were received for three-bedroom flats. A further 6,208 applications were submitted for two-bedroom flats.
Planning Ministry's State Minister Akram Kamaluddin told AVAS on Monday that the ministry is preparing to begin the evaluation process and that the work would commence within the week. He said all 35,861 forms from the three categories would be evaluated over the next three months.
Former President Abdulla Yameen's government arranged for home visits to check the living standards of those who applied for housing flats. However, this government will conduct home visits to assess living conditions only if necessary, Akram said.
The state minister said a date would be fixed for the handover of the land and flats to the recipients as soon as the evaluation of the application forms is completed.
