Supreme Court's SG sacked from post

The Supreme Court's Secretary General (SG), Hussain Faiz, has been removed from the post.

The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) said in a statement that Faiz was sacked for installing CCTV cameras in the Supreme Court and viewing the camera feeds from his office to surveil judges and staff. The statement also noted that over MVR 200,000 was spent on the camera installation in violation of public finance policies.

The statement added that Faiz acted against the instructions given to him by the court's judges and that he set a bad example for employees. The Supreme Court has lost confidence in him as the administrative head, the statement further said.

Faiz was appointed as the Secretary General of the Supreme Court on January 7, 2019. He was suspended in March this year pending the investigation of two serious charges against him.
