Qasim re-elected as JP's leader uncontested

Jumhooree Party (JP)'s leader, Qasim Ibrahim, has been re-elected as the party's leader for another term without a vote.

The JP congress is scheduled to be held from 24 to 25 this month. The party will elect members to its leadership positions and council at the congress. JP opened application for the party's post, with the deadline for submissions expiring at 12:00 pm yesterday.

According to the party, only Qasim had applied for the leader post when the deadline passed. Therefore, Qasim, who has been the party's leader since its inception, has automatically been elected for the post. The new term would be Qasim's fourth term as the party's leader.

According to the JP's constitution, the party's presidential candidate will be the party leader.

Meanwhile, twelve candidates have applied for the post of deputy leader. They include Qasim's wife and current Transport Minister Aisha Nahla, current Fisheries Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, and former Transport Minister Ameen Ibrahim.
