Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs worth MVR 3.42 million smuggled into the Maldives via courier.
The drugs were discovered while conducting a further search on suspicious contents in cosmetics in packages brought to the Maldives from the UK.
Customs said six cans of what was believed to be drugs were discovered in two packages searched on March 29, and four such cans from a package searched on March 31. Upon initial analysis, the contents tested positive for mephedrone, customs said.
The total weight of the items, including packaging, was 1,800 grams. The street value of the items was estimated at MVR 3.24 million. The drugs are now in police custody.
