Two Hiyaa flat owners fined for combining flats

The owners of two Hiyaa Tower apartments have been fined MVR 100,000 each.

Urbanco Friday said it had received a report that two two-bedroom apartments in a Hiyaa tower had been interconnected and combined as one apartment and identified the two apartments in their investigation of the matter.

The owners of the two apartments worked together to demolish the middle wall separating the two apartments and converted the flats into one four-bedroom apartment, violating Urbanco's policies.

"After investigating the case, each apartment has been fined MVR 100,000, and both parties have been ordered to pay the fine within five days," Urbanco said.

When the Hiyaa flats were handed over to recipients, Urbanco asked the residents to obtain Urbanco's permission before bringing any changes to the interior of the apartments. The corporation had warned that those who violated the order would be heavily fined.
