Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the murder of Naeema Moosa, who was found brutally murdered in Noonu Manadhoo.
Naeema, a 62-year-old woman who lived alone, was reported missing after she failed to show up for work and could not be contacted. On the evening of April 7, the police arrived at her residence and forcibly entered her room, where they found her lifeless body on the floor, bearing numerous stab wounds. Naeema was laid to rest on April 8 without a post-mortem examination.
Abdul Rahman Sabeeh, the President of Manadhoo Council, confirmed to AVAS that two suspects had been apprehended in relation to the murder.
"The precise time or date of their arrest is not known to me as the police have not officially shared that information," he stated.
According to sources, both suspects have previous criminal records, and it has been reported that one of them has confessed to the murder.
As part of the investigation, a specialized police team from Male' collected fingerprints and DNA samples from multiple residents of Manadhoo. However, it is currently unknown whether the arrests were based on a match between the fingerprints and DNA samples found at the scene of Naeema's murder and those collected during the investigation.
The police have not made any comments regarding the arrests thus far.
