The Democrats' list leak did not originate from commission: EC

The Election Commission (EC) has said that the list of signatories to The Democrats, which has applied to register as a political party, was not leaked via the commission.

The Democrats filed for registration last Thursday, fulfilling the minimum membership requirement of 3,500 signatures. However, the party is still awaiting official registration. Meanwhile, the party has filed a complaint with the EC alleging that the list of signatures had been leaked, following which the EC promptly launched an investigation to identify the source of the alleged leak within the commission.

After investigating the case, the commission issued a statement on Tuesday refuting the claims and asserting that the list was not leaked from within the commission. The statement emphasized that neither any member nor any employee of the commission was responsible for the leak.

“As the commission gears up for the presidential election, we appeal not to propagate any unfounded rumors regarding the commission which could undermine public confidence in the commission, its members, and staff,” the EC said in a statement.

The Democrats has also filed a complaint with the police regarding the list leak. The emerging party has also alleged that government officials are intimidating and threatening those on the member list.
