The Democratic Party finalized its name, colors, and logo during its inaugural congress, held on Wednesday night at Ghiyasuddin School Hall in Male' City.
The event was attended by Parliament Speaker and former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed as the guest of honor. In addition to officials from the Elections Commission and senior leaders of various political parties, more than 500 members party members attended the event.
The party's official name was adopted as "The Democrats," with the common name being "Democrats." The chosen logo, an asterisk, represents the national tree of the Maldives, the coconut palm, and the corals that are characteristic of the Maldives.
The Democrats, led by former senior MDP members, adopted white, baby blue, and black as their colors.
Representatives from the main-ruling MDP and Adhaalath Party did not attend the session.
