Binveriyaa land recipients granted more time to relinquish current property

The Planning Ministry has extended the timeframe for Binveriyaa Scheme land recipients to relinquish their current property.

Initially, the Binveriyaa agreement stipulated that land recipients under the Binveriyaa Scheme were required to surrender their existing government-owned land within two years of signing the agreement.

However, in a significant update, the ministry's State Minister Akram Kamaluddin announced on Wednesday that the two-year deadline has been extended to a more flexible five years from the agreement's signing date.

"The revised agreement's draft is now available for land recipients to view through the designated portal," Akram said.

While the ministry has not explicitly provided the rationale behind extending the period from two to five years, the public has been expressing concern that the initially granted two-year period was too short.

While 18,955 individuals were deemed eligible for the Binveriyaa Scheme, 9,003 plots are being issued in various combinations. Some of the land allocated from Hulhumale has already been handed over to recipients.
