Ali Arif resigns as JP's SG

Jumhooree Party's Secretary General, Ali Arif, has resigned from the post, several senior party officials have confirmed to AVAS.

Ali Arif's resignation comes while the party decided against endorsing any candidate for the second round of the presidential election earlier the same day. The exact reason for Ali Arif's resignation is not clear.

Despite having resigned from his role within the party, Ali is still a member of JP.

The former Kelaa MP was appointed as the JP Secretary General on October 23, 2019. He shares a close familial connection with the PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Reports suggest that their relationship has been strained ever since Ali Arif departed from the PPM to join the Jumhooree Party.
