MP Siraj and L. Atoll Council President join PPM

Fonadhoo Constituency MP Moosa Siraj and L. Atoll Council President Ismail Ali have officially joined the opposing Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).

Both Moosa Siraj and Ismail Ali were elected to their current positions under the ticket of the main-ruling MDP.

Moosa Siraj left the MDP on August 21, just ahead of the initial round of the presidential election. Meanwhile, Ismail Ali left the MDP after differences between Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stemming from MDP's presidential primary. Ismail Ali briefly joined The Democrats, a party formed as a breakaway faction of the MDP during its internal conflict.

At a campaign event held by PPM-PNC in Laamu Gan on Monday, several members of rival parties joined the party in addition to Moosa and Ismail. Their membership forms were received by PNC's President Abdul Raheem Abdulla and the PPM-PNC coalition's presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
