The public's trust and confidence in the police service has increased, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has said.
Hameed, who is currently in Australia, took to social media to express his satisfaction with the increased trust and confidence the public has in the police service.
In his post, Hameed said the police's strategic plan for 2019-2024 was implemented despite challenges faced due to COVID-19. He cited the restructuring of the police service, bringing about necessary legal changes, the introduction of neighborhood policing, and special measures to combat pre-meditated crimes and drug trafficking to have contributed to the positive changes.
“Despite these challenges, I think many of the objectives of the strategic plan have been achieved,” Hameed said.
Hameed also highlighted efforts to reduce traffic violations and group fights, the integration of body cameras in police operations, the utilization of the police training center in Addu City, and the deployment of highly visible police presence in densely populated areas.
Hameed said that despite limited resources, successes were achieved with the help of all the employees. He expressed his gratitude to all employees of the Maldives Police Service for their dedication.
Hameed emphasized that there is still room for improvement and further development within the police service and urged his successors to build upon the progress already made.
Commissioner Hameed has announced that he will retire from the police service on the 11th of this month.
