Gov't Oversight Committee to approve cabinet ministers through separate votes

The Parliament's Government Oversight Committee has decided to conduct separate votes for the approval of newly appointed cabinet ministers.

The committee on Sunday concluded its evaluation of the 22 cabinet ministers appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on November 17.

At today's committee meeting, the chair, Maafannu West MP Mohamed Falaah, announced that the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Maryam Mariya, had renounced her New Zealand citizenship on October 31, and the committee had received documentation confirming this. Additionally, the Parliament received confirmation of the renunciation of British citizenship by Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar on November 15.

President Dr. Muizzu's cabinet includes three female ministers and a blend of individuals with both past government experience and newcomers. Some of the appointments have been met with skepticism from the public.
