Indian tourist arrival number crosses 200,000

The number of tourists visiting the MAldives from India thus far this year has crossed 200,000.

According to Tourism Ministry statistics, as of the 20th of this month, a total of 1,800,468 tourists have visited the Maldives this year. This marks a 12.3 percent increase from the same period last year, which saw 1,602,219 million tourists. However, Indian arrivals were higher last year, with 241,369 visitors during the corresponding period against this year's 200,744.

This year, the Maldives has witnessed the highest arrival numbers in its history. While the tourism-dependent archipelago received 1,702,831 tourists arrived in 2019 pre-COVID-19, the arrival number was 555,494 in 2020. In 2021, 1.2 million tourists arrived in the Maldives and 1.6 million in 2022.

According to the statistics by the Tourism Ministry, there are 1,135 tourism facilities currently in the Maldives. These include 175 resorts, 802 guesthouses, 144 safaris, and 14 hotels.
