Oil tanks in Funadhoo island near Male' City will be relocated to K. Maagirifalhu near industrial island Thilafushi, the government has clarified.
The government's plans to relocate the the fuel farm in Funadhoo to Maagirifalhu was announced by the Principle secretary to the President on Public Policy, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, at a press conference held Sunday. Despite the existence of another lagoon with the same name (K. Maagirifalhu), one north of Hulhumale, near Sheraton Maldives and Kanduoiygiri, and another near Thilafushi, the specific lagoon designated for the fuel farm relocation was not clarified by the government.
Following the announcement, various environmental groups expressed concerns about the lagoon near Sheraton Maldives and Kanduoigiri, emphasizing its natural richness.
Addressing the concerns, Construction and Infrastructure Minister Abdullah Muthalib today clarified that the fuel farm would be relocated to the Maagirifalhu near Thilafushi.
