The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has issued more than 1,900 tickets for medical treatment abroad since the beginning of the year.
NSPA's CEO Heena Waleed Friday said that NSPA and Aasandha are facilitating arrangements for those who apply for medical treatment.
Addressing recent allegations suggesting that medical treatment abroad is approved only after informing the President, Heena said there are no policies mandating presidential involvement in the process.
Sharing statistics, Heena said from January 1 to January 25, a total of 1,922 tickets were issued for medical treatment abroad. Of these, 97.2 percent of tickets were issued for medical treatment in India.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had earlier said that the government would cover all the expenses for treatment under Aasandha in countries that provide quality health services such as Thailand and the UAE. While this service is already available in India and Sri Lanka, the government has already started arranging treatment options covered by Aasandha in Thailand and the UAE.
