Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has said that the traffic situation in the Male' city area has worsened due to inaction by the previous governments.
In a post on X, Minister Ameen pointed out that previous administrations failed to address the illegal issuance of garage letters necessary for vehicle registration. He also stated that the roads of Male' and Hulhumale' have become cluttered with old and unregistered vehicles, as a direct result of former governments not taking action. While acknowledging the complexity of the issue, he emphasized the need for action in the public's interest.
Thanking the public for the response to the work being done by the ministry, the minister called on agencies and the public to work together in finding solutions to these challenges.
Ameen's comments come while authorities are actively towing illegally parked and old vehicles from the streets of Male' and Hulhumale'. In this regard, several racing cars parked in Hulhumale's Central Park area, including some registered in the B zone, were towed on Thursday.
