Cannot determine if the woman died from dengue: Health

Health Ministry has begun investigations into the death of the woman who had died yesterday, stating that it was unclear that she had passed away from dengue.

The woman had passed away on route to GDh. Thinadhoo Abdu Samad Regional Hospital from GDh. Faresmaathodaa two days ago, Thinadhoo Hospital had said that she had been diagnosed with dengue. However, Health Ministry had said that a diagnosis report had not been filed with the Ministry and as such, warranted an investigation .

Speaking about the recent spike in dengue cases, Health Ministry Spokesperson Thasleema Usman said a death from the disease was a crucial matter, especially given that this year there had been no recorded cases of dengue.

"We were informed that she was diagnosed for another disease. So were are checking the issue. We can only make a definitive statement once we review OPD tests," Thasleema said.

An official reporting to Avas from Thinadhoo Abdu Samad Hospital, said that initially the deceased was not diagnosed with dengue. The official said the tests run after she was admitted showed that she was positive for dengue and travel arrangements to Thinadhoo were made after the Hospital had confirmed this.

"We made all plans to transport her to Thinadhoo for further treatment. She died on route. Faresmaathodaa Hospital did inform to Thinadhoo Hospital that she was positive for dengue," the official said.

The Health Ministry while addressing this situation said that the number of dengue cases which were being reported was increasing at an alarming rate. The Health ministry has urged the public to take preventative measures against dengue as more and more cases are being reported.
