- Currently above Bay of Bengal
- "Roanu" weather pattern will begin tomorrow
- Heavy rains expected in the period
The current typhoon has been named "Roanu", as winds and rain have picked up. "Roanu" is currently in Bay of Bengal.
Met Department said the rains that began on Monday had transformed to a tropical cyclone.
The cyclone was named after the "Roanu" weather pattern associated with the rainy season in the country. The current "Kethi" weather pattern ends today and "Roanu" will begin tomorrow. Heavy rains have always been associated with the pattern, which is also the fourth weather pattern in the weather pattern calendar.
The current rains began east of Maldives on May 9. The rains had developed into a cyclone off Sri Lanka in the Bay of Begal.
"Even though the rains have passed over Sri Lanka, a large area of the subcontinent will be affected by the rains. This has impacted Maldives. But the father away the clouds get, we expect better weather," Director of Metrology Ahmed Rasheed said.
All atolls have experienced heavy winds and rains, with 15 islands sustaining the most damage. Over 40 individuals have been given assistance.
