The hearings of the terror charges filed against the former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been cancelled.
The Court was scheduled to hear the statements of two anonymous witnesses. However, the State was only able to produce only one witness. The Court had questioned the state lawyers on the missing witness.
State lawyers said they had tried to produce two witnesses in Court, but were able to submit one as the administrative procedures on the second witness had not been completed. They added that two witnesses will be produced to Court in the next hearing.
The Judge had announced that a new hearing will be held on May 31, at 1pm.
Adeeb's lawyer, Moosa Siraj had raised objections over the delay in hearing, noting that this was the second time the hearing was cancelled on the account of the state lawyers inability to produce witnesses. He said it was the responsibility of the state lawyers to present their witnesses, and urged the Court to proceed ahead without producing witnesses.
Siraj had asked if the next hearing was the last one in which witnesses can be summoned to Court. The Judge had not offered a reply. Siraj also noted that Adeeb is scheduled to appear in Court on May 31 on a different case; however, the Judge had passed to proceed as normal.
Terror charges had been filed on the former VP on charges of weapons possession on May Day 2015. The charges were filed under clauses (a), (d) and (g).
