Evidence submission delayed in Adeeb, bodyguards case

The evidence submission in the terror charges filed against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and two of his bodyguards have been postponed.

The evidence submission was scheduled for this morning. However, during the trial, Adeeb had requested for additional time to prepare their evidence.

The hearings were scheduled for May 26. The hearings were expedited by the Judges presiding the case. Adeeb's bodyguards, Hussain Rikaz and Ahmed Amir, also on trial on the same charges, had requested as such and the Judge had announced that the case will proceed on May 26. This will be the last opportunity to submit evidence.

Adeeb said that there were many cases against him going through the courts and that he was able to meet the lawyers twice a week, adding that this was insufficient time to prepare for the trials.

The three had said in the Court the extension granted was sufficient time to prepare for the case, adding they had no issues in presenting evidence that day. The state today said they will present 13 anonymous witnesses against Adeeb, Rikaz and Amir.

Terror charges were filed against the three in connection to the explosion on the Presidential speedboat "Finifenmaa".
