The Criminal Court bench overseeing the weapons possession charges filed against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been dismissed and the case has been handed over to Judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf. No details on the bench change has been made public.
Speaking in today's hearing Judge Baaree said the current bench had been dismissed and that he would be taking over the case.
He had accepted many evidence items and witness statements that had not been included in the initial discovery. Adeeb's lawyer Moosa Siraj had raised objections on the move, to which the Judge had replied that he had accept it and the case was proceeding.
Statements of three anonymous witnesses had been taken in today's hearings. All three had testified against Adeeb, stating that pistols had been seen in Adeeb's apartment.
While the hearings had been concluded for today, the summary charges will be heard in a hearing scheduled for Saturday 9 am. It is expected that a verdict will be announced soon.
