The verdict on the Finifenmaa launch will be heard tonight at 10:00.
Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, bodyguards Ahmed Amir and Ahmed Rikaz have been charged in connection to the explosion aboard the vessel. The three are charged under clause 2, subsection (a), (d) and (g) of law number 90/10. Additional charges were filed against three under clause 6, subsection (b) of the same law. Under the law, if proven guilty, the three can earn a jail term between 20 to 25 years. But the sentence can be reduced under the penal code.
After the case was reassigned to Criminal Court Judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf, the hearings had been held in secret. The session to be held for the verdict would also be a closed off session citing national security concerns.
Last Suday, Adeeb was sentenced to serve 10 years in jail. Since the sentencing he has remained in Police custody.
Abuse of power charges had also been filed against the former VP in connection to the explosion of the vessel. The charges were filed under clause number 513, subsection (b), (c) of the Penal Code. The hearings are yet to be concluded.
