150 islands pledge to resolve waste crisis

Environment Ministry had signed a pledge with 150 islands to address the waste crisis in the country and in the process achieve the targets set in the Clean Maldives Campaign.

The pledge was signed in a separate ceremony held after the conclusion of the Clean Maldives Campaign. The two-day symposium shared and discussed on waste management methods and challenges in waste management.

Speaking in the press conference held after the conclusion of the symposium. Ali Amir, Deputy Minister at the Environment Ministry, said they were able to achieve more than what they had initially sought out. He said all participants had been able to accept the severity of the issue and had pledged to address the issue.

“The biggest success of this is that 180 islands had come on board with the agreement. We didn’t anticipate this,” he said.

Ali Amir said they will publish a report on the findings of the symposium but said he was not sure when the report would be released.
