Criminal Court has sentenced two Maldivians to life in prison, a man and woman who were caught smuggling drugs into the country from a Sri Lankan airlines flight.
The life sentences were handed to Khadheeja Ahmed from Fuvahmulah City and Abdul Latheef from Addu City, Hithadhoo.
Prosecutors said two cans filled with drugs were found in their luggage.
The court ruled against them citing that the evidence and witnesses put forward by the prosecution proved their guilt without a doubt. The two were also fined for a sum of 100,000 Rufiyaa along with their life sentences.
