Govt awards project to build over 400 flats for govt staff

Local construction giant, Amin Construction has been awarded a MVR647 million contract by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) for the construction of flats for government employees in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale.

HDC Managing Director Mohamed Saiman said during the signing ceremony that the contract stipulates the construction of 402 housing units in Hulhumale' for government employees. He revealed that many reputed companies, both local and international competed for the contract, but Amin Construction ultimately won the bid.

"The residences built will be mid-range luxury residences, and they will be much cheaper than the apartments now available in the market. In an area where quality living is promoted, 3 towers of 14 floors will be built worth MVR647 million," Saiman said.

Saiman stated the apartments would be available through the banks on mortgage and for government companies in need of housing. He said the project would be completed within twenty six months.

Managing Director of Amin Construction, Abdulla Mohamed said the design work would be completed within 60 days, and that the work would commence shortly after the approval of the design. He further stated that the materials required would be transported to the site as soon as possible.

Ameen Construction has previously carried out large projects in Hulhumale including schools and housing units.
