Sheikh Imran's appeal to resume after long hiatus

High Court has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday for the appeal trial of religiously conservative Adhaalath Party (AP) leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla after a long hiatus.

Sheikh Imran is serving a jail sentence of 12 years on terrorism charges for inciting violence during a major opposition protest held in May 2015.

The last appeal hearing was held in April 2016.

Ali Zahir, Imran's lawyer, who is currently under house arrest has confirmed that the hearing was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
